The Rhône and the Cance Valley
60 km (1000 m), 80 km (1100 m), 105 km (1590 m)
The Ardèche Verte is also a rich territory of fruit production. We will cross the orchards of cherry trees, apricot trees, peach trees, apple trees and pear trees before reaching the Rhône valley and its Saint-Joseph vineyards.
We will follow the river along the ViaRhôna, then we will take the road of the Cance valley. A change of scenery is guaranteed along these 15 km: a narrow and winding road, the remains of spinning mills and other factories; you will have the impression of going back in time by discovering this beautiful valley which seems to have remained apart from the world. Don’t forget to observe the flora and fauna that roam almost freely here.
At the end of the valley, you will pass at the foot of Annonay, the largest town in the Ardèche. Annonay is famous for its many inventors: the Montgolfier brothers, the Canson paper mills or Marc Seguin (wire suspension bridge, tubular boiler).

The Ardèche plateau
65 km (1400 m), 90 km (1600 m) or 115 km (2000 m)
At an average altitude of 1000 m, this day will be a real breath of fresh air.
You will reach Nozières by a quiet road before the beautiful descent to Lamastre. Then head for Saint-Agrève, the gateway to the Ardèche plateau. The characteristic habitat of the plateau with imposing houses testifies to the harshness of the climate. Here, summers are short and it is not unusual to have snow in May or October.
You will follow the watershed via Saint-André en Vivarais. A diversion to Saint-Bonnet le Froid will bring back memories for car rally enthusiasts. The village is now famous among gastronomes thanks to Régis and Jaques Marcon, and their restaurant, Clos des Cimes, a 3-star restaurant.
A final climb will take us back to the Ardèche via Lalouvesc, famous for its basilica. Lalouvesc is a real landmark for the Nord-Ardèche and you will not miss the view of the Alps from the square in front of the basilica.

Lamastre and its chestnut groves
60 km (1100 m), 80 km (1500 m) or 100 km (1800 m)
Unknown to cyclosportive, the Col du Perrier will start the day in an energetic way. The climb through a chestnut grove will offer an incomparable freshness. Chestnut groves that you will find again in the Montreynaud pass after your passage to Lamastre. In this country, many farmers, the castaneiculteurs, have been cultivating and maintaining these chestnut trees for centuries.
The return to Saint-Félicien will follow the Doux valley, whose calm may be interrupted by the whistle of Mastrou.

Our evaluation
Visit of Boucieu-le-Roi : Jean-Pol will tell you the thousand and one stories of this village of character founded in 1291. Overlooking a large meander of the Doux, it preserves many vestiges of its past.
Boucieu-le-Roi is also known for its railroad station, which is a stop for the Train de l’Ardèche and the vélorail des Gorges du Doux. The Mastrou still circulates nowadays, along a 33 km journey between Tournon Saint-Jean-de-Muzols and Lamastre.
If you prefer to stay in Saint-Félicien, you can enjoy a relaxing game of pétanque, a spa session or a visit to the village pool.

The sweet curd of Saint Félicien on its way to PDO status
The Caillé Doux de Saint Félicien is a unique cheese:
– its production area,
– its exclusively farm-based production
– the sweetness and the aromas of its taste.
This traditional cheese, produced locally on almost all farms, was almost forgotten because of its particular manufacturing process and the standards in force, which were considered too restrictive by a large number of producers.
